STEP 5

REVIEW AND RECOVERY

STEP 1

Becoming an Apley
Orthopaedics Patient

Apley Orthopaedics aims to be the leading provider of upper limb orthopaedic services and positive patient experiences in Melbourne and Victoria, thanks to the skills of our team and our unique, personalised approach to the patient journey.

STEP 2

Making Your Appointment

Apley Orthopaedics is dedicated to providing comprehensive, holistic and
individualised expert orthopaedic opinion and care for all patients. We will
do everything possible to deliver a safe, effective, patient-centred and
evidence-based orthopaedic service in an ethical and timely manner.

STEP 3

Your Consultation

On arrival, our friendly staff will ask you to register and provide any extra details we need. Your surgeon will see you in a private room, listen to your concerns, examine you and take a medical history. If you need further investigations, these can be arranged on the same day, or whenever is most convenient for you.

A note about further Investigations:
We are committed to appropriate use of medical investigations and will only request any we believe will add value to your diagnosis and treatment. If your surgeon refers you for further investigations (such as blood tests, nerve conduction studies or advanced imaging), we’ll have you return for a follow up once you have these results.

STEP 4

Your Treatment (Non-surgery, Surgery or Opinion)

We understand no one likes surgery, so our options include operative and non-operative treatments and expert opinion. We’ll go through each option with you, discuss the pros and cons, and provide our expert advice. If you and your surgeon decide a non-operative approach (such as an injection) is best, we’ll let you know about any additional costs. Should your surgeon recommend you undergo an operation, this will happen at one of the private hospitals where they operate.

A note about preparation for surgery:

We know this may be an anxious time for you and your loved ones. To help things run as smoothly and comfortably as possible, our caring and friendly clinic staff will help you prepare for surgery. We’ll explain what to wear, what to bring and what to expect on the day.

STEP 5

Review and Recovery

Our ultimate aim is always to get you back to your best. To help you get there, we’ll review your progress and answer any questions about your recovery in a scheduled clinic follow up.

Our surgeons work very closely with hand therapists and physiotherapists to give you the best opportunity to make a full recovery.
